Moving Boxes
Moving boxes are the foundation of your moving supplies if you're going to be packing some items yourself and using a New Jersey moving company or you're planning to pack some items for storage.
Many people collect boxes from grocery stores and other businesses, but these boxes are not usually strong enough for moving and don't provide adequate protection from breakage of packed items. When you're moving, it's best to use good quality moving boxes that are specifically designed for shipping your household goods. If you're using a New Jersey moving company, your mover may refuse to handle boxes of inferior quality because they tend to burst, split and collapse.
You can buy quality moving boxes online, from your local self-service moving truck rental company, or from your local New Jersey moving company, who may even have used moving boxes available for purchase that are still in very good condition.
Moving boxes you purchase from a moving supplies store usually have a pre-stamped label area and a weight rating for the moving box on the bottom of each carton.
Several types and sizes of moving boxes are available from moving suppliers. In addition to an adequate quantity of general moving boxes, you can buy special purpose moving boxes, like:
- Book boxes - These cardboard boxes are smaller because a box of books can get very heavy in no time. Use them for books and heavier items.
- Dishpacks - Dishpacks are a bit deeper and provide additional cushioning for your dishes and glassware. These are especially handy moving boxes to have on hand.
- Mirror cartons - Offered in different sizes, mirror cartons consist of multiple pieces of cardboard open on two sides that you assemble around mirrors or artwork. Because the sides are open, you can adjust the size of this type of moving box according to what's going inside. Make sure you tape them securely.
- Wardrobe boxes - These moving boxes let you move your clothes on their hangings. They're great for keeping your clothes neat. They're tall, so you can consider using them for other awkwardly shaped items and they have carrying handles (slots) on each side at the top of the box. They allow for fast packing and unpacking and have extra space in the bottom for accessories like belts and handbags.

Labeling Moving Boxes
Label your moving boxes carefully. Note the room where the box is going to go, list important items you'll need to be find quickly later (but don't advertise that the box contains valuables) and put your last name on each box if you're using a New Jersey moving company or other mover. If you do a good job when you mark your boxes, you'll easily be able to see if any boxes with your name on them were left on the truck. It helps to label at least one side of your boxes so you can read them without having to unstack the boxes. Your labels or markings need to be clear - print neatly. If you use printer labels make sure the font is large enough and bold so you can read it from across a room.
